Melody Beattie explains the importance of gratitude in life as she quotes, “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” What most of us do is curse our life because of various reasons such as low income, less number of loyal friends, getting heartbroken, losing at some point or incident in life, etc. On the other hand, what we ought to do is see the circumstances from a point of view that lets us learn from every downfall and makes us praise the downhearted times more than the joyous ones.
Being grateful for what we have in the low-spirited days helps us stay calm, see the positive side and give our best to better our situation the way we want.
SOME EASY AND EFFECTIVE WAYS TO BE GRATEFUL?
Maintain a journal
Journalling is writing your thoughts, daily activities, your happy/sad moments, things you want to remember, or anything you want to write/share with someone. It is medically proven that journaling helps us express ourselves better and live our lives in a more positive and peaceful manner. You can use journaling as a way to be grateful as well. Let me provide you an example.
Keep a journal in tabular form with two specific columns, (a) positive things I noticed today and (b) negative things I experienced today. By keeping a track of your activities in such a way, you will get to know that even the worst days are not as bad as we think and there is at least one positive thing that we fail to consider every day. This will motivate you to keep going and working hard. On the other hand, seeing through the negative experiences will give you the opportunity to observe your mistakes and improve them for future reference. This is an activity that I myself applied in my life and got to know about the importance of gratitude in life.
The first thing we should do before starting our day should be to thank the universe for things it has given. Starting our day with thanks will probably lend us a helping hand in ending our day with no regrets, you see. As Gerald Good states, “If you want to turn your life around, try thankfulness. It will change your life mightily.“
“Meditation is a process of lightening up, of trusting the basic goodness of what we have and who we are, and of realizing that any wisdom that exists, exists in what we already have. We can lead our life so as to become more awake to who we are and what we’re doing rather than trying to improve or change or get rid of who we are or what we’re doing. The key is to wake up, to become more alert, more inquisitive, and curious about ourselves“, says Pema Chodron. Meditation itself is so effective and sooting for our life, adding gratitude to it will only double the advantages.
Embrace your passion
Most of us are unhappy with our lives because we aren’t doing what we love to do, we weren’t able to pursue our passion for life, right? Firstly, if this makes you feel any better, there are many of us who have suffered from the same and you’re not alone. I know, we gave our best but the stars weren’t completely in our favor, and trust me, that happens. But, does being unable to pursue our dreams full time bereave us from them? No. Our passion is something that is inside out in us and can never be taken away. So, take a day off from your busy schedule and do what you love on that particular day. Embrace it and be appreciative that you still have it.
Discussed above weren’t the things that difficult to do on a regular basis, were they? Trust me, the positive effect these things will have in your life will be hard to describe in words. They say you need to do something continuously for 21 days to make it a habit, but I will urge you to apply the above-mentioned activities for 1-2 months. After this timeline, you’ll see the beautiful change in your life yourself and will probably find more ways to express gratitude. I’m sure that this will happen and once it happens, please visit our site again and share the importance of gratitude in life you came to know about.
